The Celestial Coin Tavern and Inn

The Celestial Coin Tavern and Inn

The Celestial Coin is a travelers’ inn on a main trade route between two large cities. It’s a popular stop-in for travelers and merchants moving between the two cities, as well as for local laborers headed out for a treat, and nobles with nowhere else to stay on their route. It’s a quaintly decorated, well-appointed, two-story building. The ground floor is one large room set up as a bar. It has a wide, copper-topped bar spanning one short side of the rectangular building, four large tables for groups, and half a dozen screened booths along one long wall which can seat four at a time. The floor is of cobblestone covered with straw, and the walls are wood-paneled, decorated with a handful of stuffed deer heads and paintings of local landscapes. Adjoining the ground floor is an outhouse, a kitchen, and stables with enough room for a dozen horses or ponies. The first floor of the inn has two double rooms (one of which belongs to the innkeeper), and six single rooms of various sizes. These spare rooms are for guests to stay, and are often booked out by travelers. These rooms are simple but comfortable. The inn serves a variety of local ales and a handful of harder drinks, and there’s a perpetual stew bubbling away in the kitchen. The innkeeper has regular deliveries of fresh vegetables and bread, too. Typically, the atmosphere in the place is great. They bring in local musicians and mummers for evening entertainment, and the food and ale flow freely. However, during this adventure, the mood quickly becomes somber.
